On-page optimization is a type of search engine optimization (SEO) which refers to factors that have an effect on your Web site or Web page listing in natural search results. These factors are controlled by the webmaster or content provider.
In order for your website to become visible to search engines, you need to pay close attention to these five important aspects of on-page optimization, these are:
1. Title Tag
The title tag is a vital aspect of on-page optimization. The title is what the searcher will first see in the search results. It is also used as the text that is linked to the web page. It is important to include your main keyword in the title tag.
2. Meta Description and Meta Keyword Tags
Meta description and meta keyword tags are part of a page source which are used to describe the web page. Goggle’s search engine doesn’t put much weight in this part of the page so you don’t need to spend much time on this area. But you should place a brief but compelling description here in order to attract readers.
3. Header Tags
Header tags are tags used to define HTML headings. There are different levels of header tags that go from h1 to h6. These tags also create different levels of headlines. h1 defines the most important heading while h6 defines the least important heading. One very important thing to do in this aspect is to use your targeted keyword in the main headline of your content.
4. Body Tag
The body element defines the document’s body.
The body element contains all the contents of an HTML document, such as text, hyperlinks, images, tables, lists, etc.
Many article writers use this area to place their keywords. A few years back when search engines were not yet very efficient, a content provider could easily put a keyword at the end of each sentence to improve his site’s rankings. But it is not applicable these days anymore because search engines, especially Google, have become very smart that they can almost act like a human reader. They can detect if your content is overstuffed with keywords. They also have the ability to penalize your site or lower its rankings for keyword spamming.
Since search engines have become very advanced these days, it has become very difficult to trick them in order to improve page ranking. The best thing to do when writing content is to write in a natural conversational way without overusing keywords. Remember, you are providing content for human users and not for search engines.
5. ALT Tag
Alternate tags are used to describe images in your web page. They have little or no influence on your search engine ranking. Although alternate tags can’t make any impact on search engines, you should use it on the images that you insert on your content for the benefit of your readers.
