Easy Ways to Help With Diabetes

Diabetes is a deadly disease that needs to be taken very seriously. If you have diabetes you need to do everything within your power to control it and keep it from progressing. This is possible if you are willing to put the effort into doing what it takes. Here are some easy ways to help with diabetes.

·         Eat fewer carbohydrates. It really is true that diabetics need less carbs in their diet. Carbohydrates turn to sugar in the body. Diabetics don’t need much sugar or carbohydrates because it takes blood sugar longer to get back to normal after eating them. The longer your blood sugar is high, the more damage is being done to your body.

·         Exercise. Every diabetic should have a regular exercise routine. You need at least 30 minutes of exercise five days a week. It’s best if you can work up to exercising every day. Exercise helps your cells use insulin and keep blood sugar readings lower.

·         Take medication as prescribed. If you have been put on medication for diabetes, don’t miss doses. Taking the medication at the prescribed times helps keep blood sugar level.

·

Avoid stress. Diabetics need to learn coping mechanisms for dealing with stress. Stress can raise blood sugar readings. Learning better ways to deal with stress is imperative.

·         Regular checkups. Going to the doctor regularly, and keeping him abreast of your progress or any problems, is very important. The sooner a new symptom or rising trend in blood sugar readings is found; the easier it is to take care of.

·         Eat at regular intervals. Diabetics need to eat every 2-3 hours. Eating at set times keeps blood sugar steady. Fluctuating blood sugar readings are not good. Ones that are too high are doing damage to organs, and low blood sugar hurts your eyes and can cause you to pass out.

·         Use your glucose meter. It is very important that every diabetic keep track of their blood sugar readings. New diabetics should check their blood sugar every morning, one and two hours after each meal, and at night. You should also check after exercising to make sure your blood sugar doesn’t go too low. And, every time you add a new food into your diet, check to see what it is doing to your body. It seems like a lot of checking, but it won’t take long to figure out which foods to eat and which to avoid.

As you can see, none of the suggestions are hard. They do take time and effort, but it is worth it. Your health is worth it. Uncontrolled diabetes can lead to blindness, amputations, kidney failure, and other serious health problems. Be good to yourself and proactive with your health.
