3 Things to Consider when Writing Articles Online

Article writing has gone a long way since the advent of the World Wide Web. For some, it has even become a regular job where a stream of regular income flows. It also gives a lot of convenience because one can actually work from home with this job.

For those who chose to work at home, freelance article writing is the answer to their wishes.

If you want to try online article writing, you should remember that just like other jobs, you need to learn and follow certain rules before you can become one. You just can’t jump into the bandwagon and start writing for someone without knowing what and how to write online.

This article does not intend to discuss about the basic rules of online article writing as they have been covered over and over in our previous releases. What we intend to cover here are the other things that you need to consider when writing articles online. They can help you to add a little bit more to your knowledge as an aspiring online article writer. These are:

1. Word Count

Word count matters because it helps to determine the length of time that you need to spend for each article. It is also made as one of the bases for pricing, in fact, many website and blog owners specify the length of the article that they want for the amount that they pay.

Written web content vary in lengths from 300 to 600 words. They are intended to be short because long articles can be boring for online readers.

2. Search Engine Optimization

Search engine optimization is a strategy that helps to enhance the visibility of your articles to search engines. Although content is intended for humans, it is necessary for you to take note of the important words that your target audience uses when they search for information about your topic on the web. Using these “profitable keywords” can greatly help the search engines to easily find your articles and list them at the top of the search engine results pages.

A keyword density of two percent per article is good enough to make it visible. Just be sure to discover popular and less competed keywords and your content will standout in the search results. A good keyword research tool can help you on this.

3. Structure

Article structure refers to the right construction of your article. You should avoid writing a long flow of text that doesn’t seem to end.

Break your article into ideas, with each idea contained in single paragraphs. Break your paragraphs into sentences and separate your paragraphs with white spaces in between them. This will make your article easier to read and more understandable.

An average online article is no less than five paragraphs. It should contain a good introduction, an article body filled with valuable information, and a conclusion.

When writing articles online, always follow writing and search engine guidelines. They can help to make you stand out from the rest.
